Join us for our annual Spring Time Eggs Workshop.  We'll create a variety of knitted lace covered eggs, and as always there will be a few surprises!  This is a great workshop for an advanced regular knitter to get started in lace knittting!  And of course, always fun even for the most accomplished lace knitter.  The egg covers give an opportunity to learn some tricky shaping techniques with your lace stitches, as well as a chance for you to flex your design skills in lace knitting.  And you come away with a fun finished product to display or gift.

A weekend of fun & learning - - good knitting, good food and good friends! This workshop will be held over the weekend at my home and business in Alburtis, PA - conveniently located 40 minutes north of Philadelphia. The class room is comfortable and beautifully furnished, the setting is peaceful, small town Pennsylvania.  Out of towners can make this workshop a family or romantic get-away with a stay at nearby Bear Creek Mountain Resort or can conveniently stay at the Alburtis Lodge directly across the street from my home.

The cost is $100. Also included: morning snacks and wonderful gourmet lunches done by Ebby.

Herbert Niebling was the best known designer of the Art Knitting Movement centered in Germany in the 1950’s & 60”s. His pieces were always done in cotton, almost always in the round, and often depicted flora forms surrounded by his signature mesh background. Mr. Niebling inspired designers around the world and we can see his influence in Spanish, Italian and Japanese knitting of that time. Many of his designs have been reprinted as he inspires a whole new generation of adventurous knitters.

The charts are large and confusing. But, they don’t have to be. Lace shorthand can come to the rescue! This workshop will show you how to rechart these designs to really understand them and make the knitting easy. We will rechart and knit a small doily from an old German book to learn the techniques on Saturday. Then on Sunday we will practice recharting on a larger piece.

For adventurous knitters willing to do the hard work with a pencil so the knitting can be a joy.

Bring your partially finished projects, the ones you are stuck on and together we will get you unstuck, restarted and maybe, the project finished!  Many students bring their projects waiting to be blocked as well because I have a great set up for blocking and it's always more fun to block together!

MOONTIDE Lace Knitting on Cape Cod
Week-Long Retreat
June 3-10, 2017
Wellfleet, MA
JUST THREE SPOTS OPEN! Don't delay!
Join us for a fabulous week spent with fellow knitters in beautiful, serene Wellfleet, Cape Cod. Focus on your knitting and enjoy a lovely beach vacation at the same time. Classroom time is mixed with free time for vacation activities and show/share/knit in the evenings. We stay right by the ocean, in a group of cottages which back up to the National Seashore, the same ones we've been enjoying for years.

The pattern for the retreat project will be exclusively available only to the retreat attendees and is a strictly kept secret until the first day of the retreat!  You'll advance both your technical skills and your ability to translate your creativity into a knittable piece. There will be approximately 24 hours of instruction at our main cabin which has a large, comfortable classroom. We will have classes each morning, Sunday through Friday in the class cabin.  Afternoons are free for vacation fun. Most evenings include a get-together of some sort. Total number of students is limited to 18.

CABINS We rent cabins in Surfside Cottages www.surfsidecottages.com (not roughing it, these are comfortable small houses). The cabins are shared, usually with 3 people per cabin, you will have your own bedroom but will be sharing a bathroom. I will do my best to place you as you instruct on a first-come-first-served basis.  Cabin assignments are usually finalized in November with the first non-refundable deposits.  We share housekeeping, food shopping, and cooking with cabin mates.  All cabins have one bath, a fully equipped kitchen, heat, clock radios, telephone, free wifi with internet access and blankets. Most cabins have two bedrooms with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. Most cabins require the ability to navigate 2-3 stair steps, a few have no stairs at all. Most also have an outdoor shower.  You will need to bring: sheets and towels, food (stores are expensive in the village and the nearest supermarket is ½ hour away), perhaps a small fan, lawn chair or bike if desired. All indoor spaces in Wellfleet are non-smoking by law.

THE TOWN Wellfleet has it all when it comes to water—ocean (Surfside is right on the ocean), kettle ponds and the bay. The National Seashore Park takes up 1/3  of the town and is free from development. Sand roads throughout offer endless nature walks. The paved bike trail winds through on the old railroad bed. The village itself is known as a gallery town. There is a marvelous flea market on Sat & Sun and several antique stores. Provincetown is 20 minutes away for serious arty shopping and other cultural activities including whale watching.

COPYRIGHT I do not copyright my class handouts other than the project book.  I want you to share anything taught or discussed in class.

GETTING THERE Wellfleet is 2.5 hours from Boston airport and about the same from Providence RI. Figure about 1 hour after you cross the canal.  Arrival time is Sat in the afternoon.  Departure is Sat in the morning.

COST: Lodging, instruction, pattern and yarn is $1,000.   If you wish to make your own lodging arrangements; instruction, pattern and yarn alone is $600.
